Allis-Chalmers was
founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1847 to manufacture millstones. The
first Allis-Chalmers Company was formed in 1901 as an amalgamation of
the Edward P. Allis Company (steam engines and mill equipment)
Acquisitions included: Monarch Tractors, Inc. (Collection 1778) in 1928;
the Monarch name was retained for several years thereafter.In 1998, what
remained of the Allis-Chalmers manufacturing businesses were
divested, and in January 1999, the company officially closed its
Milwaukee offices. |
